Cairn enjoy making low-carbon buildings that increase appreciation for what is already here. We learn from architecture of the past and combine this study with a commitment to lean construction to benefit a broad range of clients.
We are independent in our approach and do not follow fast fashion. We focus on a small number of high quality commissions, defining places for both personal refuge and social connection. We hope to make settings for everyday life that will continue to improve with time.
Cairn is based in London and Edinburgh, founded by Kieran Hawkins. Kieran is a Chartered Member of the RIBA and has been an ARB registered architect since completing his qualifications at UCL in 2010. He teaches at the University of Greenwich, helping to bring new research and best practice into all of Cairn’s projects. Before founding Cairn, Kieran worked at award-winning practices in London and Edinburgh, including four years as a Director at MailenDesign, shortlisted for UK Young Architect of the Year.
